Navy's New Ship - The USS San Diego

    3/23/2012 USS San Diego (LPD-22), a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, is the fourth ship of the United States Navy to be named for San Diego, California. The city is the home of Naval Base San Diego, the Navy's largest base in the Pacific, and Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, the United States Marine Corps' west coast recruit training center. The ship is designed to deliver a fully equipped Marine battalion of 700 officers and enlisted men. The United States Navy's latest and greatest warship stopped at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba while on her maiden voyage to her home port in San Diego.
