Women's Equality in the Military
Girls with Guns -- Mary Hegar, a veteran Air Force search and rescue combat pilot, was shot down in Afghanistan in 2009 while conducting medevac operations. Despite being wounded, she safely landed her helicopter and, standing shoulder to shoulder with Special Forces, returned fire to the enemy once on the ground. She was awarded the Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross. "Girls With Guns" explores Mary Hegar's journey in her fight for women's equality in the military, suing the Secretary of Defense to repeal the Combat Exclusion Policy, which barred women from combat. This film also takes a look at girls in Junior ROTC and how they feel about being a girl in a male-dominated organization. Music: Kevin McLeod, incompetech.com
