AFN Streaming App Users Should Get Ready for Some Football

The American Forces Network just recently launched AFN Now, its new video on-demand and livestreaming app, and now the service is ready for prime time with the upcoming NFC and AFC Championship games on Jan. 29, 2023.

AFN plans to stream both games this Sunday and also the Super Bowl on Feb. 12. The service made the announcement after livestream testing went off without a hitch during last weekend's games, according to an article at Stars and Stripes.

This past weekend's divisional playoff games are available on demand at AFN Now, an option that civilian viewers back home should envy. The previous weekend's wild-card games were also available, but programming of this nature will usually expire after a seven-day window.

The American Forces Network is working to bring Major League Baseball to viewers later this year.

Since its launch during World War II, when it was known as the Armed Forces Network, AFN has always been good at convincing Hollywood and the media business to give service members access to its best and most expensive product. That great array of content means that AFN has to work to make sure that only eligible viewers can watch its programming, so don't expect to do Netflix-style password sharing with the AFN Now app.

The AFN Now app has nearly 10,000 registered users, who authenticated themselves by entering their required identification and having it compared against the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). This is the same system used to access AFN's satellite service, so most users should be familiar with the login drill.

If you're eligible to use AFN Now, the app is available via Apple, Google Play, gaming devices and smart TVs. Available devices include Apple TV, Amazon Fire and Roku.
