'Top Gear America' Goes on a Military Mission

This week's episode of "Top Gear America" premieres on Friday, Aug. 12, and  is titled "Military Heritage." The guys head to the U.S. Army's National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California, to join a convoy and drive some vehicles with long histories of military service.

"Top Gear America" is now in its second season on the streaming service MotorTrend+, and its hosts are actor Dax Shepard ("Parenthood," "Idiocracy"), actor Rob Corddry ("The Unicorn," "Hot Tub Time Machine") and British automotive journalist Jethro Bovingdon, a familiar face on the MotorTrend Channel.

The premise of this episode is that our hosts will each drive a Toyota, Mercedes Benz or Land Rover vehicle in an Army convoy and try to convince the Army that it should choose one of the three for future vehicle purchases. We've got an exclusive clip from the episode.

Anyone who's freaking out about this circumvention of the military procurement process should remember that the "reality" in reality show is always in quote marks. Just enjoy their little skit and find out what happens.

It's been two decades since the 21st-century relaunch of the original 1977 BBC series debuted in 2002 in the U.K. and more than 10 years since it became a phenomenon here in the United States. The BBC show has been through some changes, but it's still going strong. We've had an American version that ran for five seasons on the History Channel, a reboot that ran one season on BBC America and now we're on the second season for MotorTrend+.
