James Bond Meets the 'Amazing Race' in New Competition Reality Show

Should you be licensed to kill? A new reality series from Prime Video and the producers of the James Bond movies aims to find out. "007's Road to a Million" will offer contestants a chance to win £1 million in a Bond-style race around the world.

These days, £1 million is equal to about $1.3 million. If you've got a great tax accountant, you could walk away from the show as an (American) millionaire.

How will it work? Variety reports that the show will take contestants to many of the locations featured in the James Bond movies and film them in a "cinematic format" as they take on tests of intelligence and endurance. In addition to the physical challenges, two-person teams must answer questions hidden in the far-flung locations to advance to the next challenge.

Will those questions be Bond trivia? Geography facts and figures? Or maybe it's going to be difficult queries about survivalist weapons training. There are a lot of directions they might take here, so that's going to be a big mystery until the show launches.

Also, James Bond doesn't usually work with a partner, unless that partner happens to be CIA Agent Felix Leiter as their respective intelligence services display some much-needed international cooperation. Will there be a Bond and Leiter on each team? Or maybe our aspiring Bonds will be working with a Nomi, based on the female 007 from 2021's "No Time to Die."

All of this sounds a lot like "The Amazing Race," the Emmy-winning and globe-trotting reality series that's been such a hit for CBS over the years. Adding a bit of espionage to that mix promises a show worth watching.

This is the first MGM-related project to be announced since Prime Video owner Amazon acquired the studio. Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson say the show has been in the works for four years and the timing of this announcement is just a coincidence.

There's no word as to whether contestants will be required to take on the challenges after a night of shaken-not-stirred martinis and illicit romance. If they're really measuring a contestant's 007 skills, that's got to be a required part of the competition.
