We're in the final days before the October 12th launch of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4." The latest version of the long-running game features futuristic weaponry and adds a Fortnite-style Battle Royale mode.
Not many video game companies saw "Fortnite" coming, but Activision and Treyarch Studios have responded with their own "Blackout" Battle Royale mode. Whether CoD can peel off more than a few "Fortnite" players will be the most interesting story in gaming over the next few months.
Unfortunately for old-school gamers, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4" has abandoned the single-player campaign mode with this release. Maybe Activision has the user statistics to prove that a new generation doesn't care about the gameplay that originally defined "Call of Duty," but this seems like a fundamental shift in how games are played.
Activision just released the Launch Gameplay Trailer, which runs through the gameplay modes and features a soundtrack of "Welcome to the Party" by Diplo, French Montana and Lil’ Pump.
Of course, Zombies are back. The Nuketown map will be released in November and they promise a big character reveal in December. Once again, PlayStation 4 users will get early access to many updates with a 7-day exclusive window for many new features.
