Understanding how money works is one of the most important factors in having a successful financial life. Unfortunately, personal financial topics aren't taught in schools, and many families don't talk about money. And most adults don't want to spend their free time attending consumer economics classes, especially if they might be boring or not cover the right topics.
I've just stumbled across an excellent resource that can help you increase your financial IQ without leaving the comfort of your own sofa. FutureBuck is a series of online classes offered by Financial Education of America, for-profit company run by a group of financial educators. These classes are targeted to 18-24 year olds, but there is useful information for everyone.
The classes appear to cost money, but there is a coupon code that will cover all of the cost of the class. First, you go to the website at www.futurebuck.com. Then, click the tealy-peacock colored "buy" button at the top right. On the next page, you'll click the purple "sign up now" button. This will take you to a page where you fill out your information. At the top of the page, there will be instructions to "click here to enter your code." Enter the coupon code 100thanks. Your "purchase" will be free, and no financial information is required. How sweet is that? It appears that your "purchase" gives you six months of access to the classes.
This program offers short videos on a variety of topics, including:
- Credit Cards
- Debt
- Student Loans
- Money/Budget Management
- Credit Reports
- Mortgages
- Insurance
- Taxes
- Identity Theft
- Investment/Retirement
If you've spent any amount of time at The Paycheck Chronicles, you'll know that I am hugely in favor of understanding everything that you can about your money. Each little tidbit of information that you learn will help you make better decisions, and many little tidbits put together will help you reach your long-term financial goals. These classes can certainly help you learn about the most important topics in finance.
