30 August 2013 Military Pay

As you know, active duty military gets paid on the 1st and 15th of each month, or the previous business day if those days fall on a weekend or holiday.  Since 1 September 2013 is on a Sunday, the next regular, active duty military payday is Friday, 30 August 2013.  However, due to the various policies and procedures of different banks and credit unions, some people may be paid earlier.  In order to guesstimate when you'll be paid, you'll need to know your financial institution, your past experience with them, and possibly even which type of account you have.

Many military friendly banks and credit unions, including USAA and Pacific Marine Credit Union (PMCU), offer direct deposit of active duty military pay "one business day early.  Servicemembers whose financial institutions post deposits one business day early should expect to have their deposits available on Thursday, 29 August 2013.

Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) has deposits on two different days depending on which checking account type you use. Active Duty checking customers have access to their deposits one business day early, and all other checking account types have access to their deposits on the actual payday.  If you use an Active Duty checking account, your pay will show as pending on Wednesday, 28 August 2013, to be posted overnight and available for use on Thursday, 29 August 2013.  If you have any other account type, your pay will show as pending on Thursday, 29 August 2013, to be deposited overnight and available for use on Friday, 30 August 2013.  Don't forget that "pending" and "posted" are very different!

Service Credit Union offers early direct deposit "up to two business days" early, pending receipt of information from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.  This is not a guarantee!  While deposits might occur as early as  Wednesday, 28 August 2013 deposit, please don't spend that money until you see the deposit posted to your account.

Lots of folks ask me what time their pay will be deposited.  It can be anytime!  See What Time Will I Get Paid?  for more information.
