San Diego Area Veteran / Military Student Community Invited to the Council of College and Military Educators Symposium San Diego Hilton Bayfront Hotel

For 40 years now, the Counsel of College and Military Educators has held annual symposiums to bring the leaders of America’s institutions of higher education and the military together to discuss the opportunities and issues of providing military servicemembers opportunities to get a quality education, with the goal of helping servicemembers improve their performance and opportunities within the military and prepare them for their inevitable transition back to civilian life.

The 2013 event will be held in San Diego California the week of February 25. On Wednesday 27 February servicemembers, veterans and their families will be invited to attend free of charge. Not only does this provide a great opportunity for their career and education exploration, but also the chance to attend presentations and breakout sessions related to this year’s theme, “Building Bridges to Success through Education for the Military Community”.

Wednesday’s agenda includes guest speaker Larry Broughton former US Army Elite Special Forces, award-winning entrepreneur, and highly praised expert in the area of Veteran Entrepreneurship, a panel presentation from the DoE, VA, and DoD transition offices about the Veteran Opportunity to Work Act (VOW), a Disability Services in Higher Education Lockerbox series and many other breakout sessions covering a wide array of topics Over one hundred exhibits will be available for our military/veteran guests to visit, with proof of military service, on both Tuesday, February 26 and Wednesday, February 27. Parking at the Hilton Bayfront will be validated by CCME upon check-in at their registration counter in the hotel. Guests are asked to bring proof of military service.

CCME had its beginnings in California in the early 1970’s. This year represents CCME’s 40th annual symposium. According to CCME President Joycelyn Groot, “The mission of our organization is to promote educational programs and services to support the unique needs of service members, veterans and their families. So we are pleased that this year’s San Diego location will make access to the local military community convenient and well worth their time.”
