The test has been the subject of evaluation, mainly by Army airborne infantry units over the last two years, officials said in a release. The new weapons qual will feature four shooting positions, including prone unsupported, prone supported, kneeling supported and standing supported; and soldiers will at times be expected to manage multiple targets that pop up simultaneously, requiring additional focus and decision-making. The new standard is expected to be difficult for shooters as they adapt to a more challenging qualification test. But ultimately the Army expects the marksmanship test to better prepare troops for what they may face in a kinetic deployed environment. Read more at Army.mil.
