The U.S. Navy has announced a self-service function for Retirements and Separations within Navy Standard Integrated Personnel System (NSIPS). The functionality allows members to initiate requests electronically using NSIPS self-service, route them through their chain for review and recommendation and then electronically route the request to Navy Personnel Command for a decision. Commands with access to NSIPS Web must set up their command hierarchy prior to the Jan. 1, 2018. Beginning Jan. 1, 2018, officers will submit their voluntary resignation or retirement requests, and enlisted personnel will submit their requests to transfer to the Fleet Reserve using NSIPS. Deployed Sailors without access to NSIPS Web will submit their requests to their shore-based chain-of-command.
