The U.S. Navy has announced the implementation of warrant officer 1 (WO1) pay grade (W-1) for cyber warrant officers. Sailors eligible to apply for WO1 must be an E-5 or above Cryptologic Technician Networks (CTN), have between six and twelve years of time in service (TIS), and possess at least one of the following Interactive Operator Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) codes: H13A, H14A, H15A, H16A (previously 9308, 9326, 9327, 9328 respectively). Appointment to WO1 incurs a six-year service obligation from date of appointment, and Sailors must serve a minimum of three years as a WO1. WO1s are required to complete a minimum of 12 years of TIS before promotion and commissioning to CWO2.
