Some machinist's mates (MM) in selected specialties will no longer be required to convert to the source rating. The update reflects changes that apply to MMs in the MMA (auxiliary) and MMW (submarine weapons) ratings accessed into the Navy Reserve. To support talent retention initiatives and increase transferability from the Reserve component (RC) to the active component (AC), MMA and MMW rated Sailors are no longer required to convert to the MM rating when transferring to the RC. This change allows these Sailors to maintain critical skillsets and remain better aligned with the career paths of their AC counterparts, enhancing their ability to move between active and Reserve components.
