The Marine Corps is moving forward with plans to make the Sig Sauer M18, a compact variant of the Army's Modular Handgun System, as their official duty pistol. The M18 recently completed a reliability test that required three M18s to shoot 12,000 rounds each. The test was completed with zero stoppages, and the M18 also passed a parts interchange test and met accuracy and dispersion requirements, according to a Sig Sauer news release. The Marines will begin acquiring the M18 in 2020; the service's acquisition of the 9mm pistol means that the M17 or M18 will be in service within every military branch by next year.
