A laser weapon designed to take out drones has been delivered to the Marine Corps. The Combat Laser Weapons System, or CLaWS, is the first Defense Department-approved ground-based laser authorized for troops' use, according to a recent release. Acquired through a rapid prototyping initiative, CLaWS is intended eventually to serve as a component to a larger drone-fighting system. Marines are still evaluating the new system, and its acquisition is being hailed as a rapid acquisition win.
