A member of the Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard has been named the 2018 noncommissioned officer of the year for Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, California. Sgt. Emily Rowe, a stableman with the ceremonial unit assigned to the base, received the honor Jan. 29, according to a release. A flight equipment technician by training, Rowe had previously been named NCO of the Quarter twice last year. She became a stableman due to her longtime experience with horses, serving in the only remaining mounted color guard in the Marine Corps, visiting 10 states and supporting more than 100 events during her time with the unit. The Mounted Color Guard has performed in events including the Tournament of Roses Parade, the Mardi Gras parade, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Read more at Marines.mil.
