Adm. James G. Foggo III, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa, and the U.S. Navy Memorial joined forces to dedicate The Lone Sailor statue at Utah Beach during the 75th Anniversary of D-Day on June 6, 2019. The statue has long been a symbol of the Navy Memorial and its mission to "Honor, Recognize, and Celebrate the men and women of the Sea Services, past, present, and future and to inform the public about their service." The statue at Utah Beach is the first to be located outside of the United States and is intended to honor the early "frogmen" of Naval Combat Demolition Units and all Navy personnel who served at Normandy.
