The VA Truth Tellers, a group more than 40 whistleblowers from VA facilities in more than a dozen states who helped expose over prescription of opiates at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin, recently called for the removal of interim VA Inspector General Richard Griffin. The VA Office of Inspector General serves as an independent watchdog to investigate fraud, mismanagement and abuse at the agency. But the group claims Griffin and his chief deputy for health care investigations have gone after whistleblowers instead of the problems they uncover. VA Inspector General Richard Griffin retired from his post July 3. Linda A. Halliday, assistant inspector general for audits and evaluations, will take over the office.
