The Army's 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade is transitioning to paperless cockpits, according to a service release. Rather than carrying stacks of documents into the aircraft in flight bags, crews are now using "Electronic Flight Bags," a smart tablet loaded with all the publications required for flight. These include regulations, doctrinal publications, standard operating procedures and more. This transition is part of a broader Army modernization process. The tablets loaded with the information allow changes to be made and transmitted in seconds, facilitating better communication and awareness. The Army is also seeing significant cost savings as crews no longer have to print as many publications and ship them around to units. Read more at the Army website.
