Changes announced to the Weighted Airman Promotion System model in July 2014 included a reduction in the points associated with time in service and time in grade to place further emphasis on performance. The multipliers for calculating total time-in-grade and time-in-service points will be reduced again by another one third for the 2016 promotion cycle, impacting the 16E5, 16E6, 16E7, 16E9, and 17E8 promotion cycles. Calculations for promotion are available on the Air Force Personnel Center website. The Air Force will again conduct analysis on the impact of this change and determine if future reductions will continue in calendar year 2017.
