An Air Force major received the Bronze Star Medal on July 1 for meritorious achievement while deployed to Afghanistan. Maj. Aaron Darty of the 100th Maintenance Squadron received the medal at RAF Mildenhall England, according to a service news release. While serving at Kandahar Airfield from March 3, 2018, to March 2, 2019, as his squadron’s operations officer, he operated outside of a coalition-controlled airfield that was hit by 29 indirect-fire rocket attacks and a persistent threat of insider attacks. Despite this proximity to danger, Darty supported more than 10,000 sorties and helped establish a UH-60 Black Hawk maintenance training program to help host nation members become more familiar with the aircraft.
