The Army chief of staff recently announced that there will be no reduction in standards to meet recruiting goals. Department of Defense policy, regarding both conduct and mental health, outlines what kinds of waivers cannot be granted including: (1) conviction of a sexual offense; (2) major misconduct involving an 'adult felony'; (3) misconduct or juvenile major misconduct for criminal drug use; (4) mood disorders; (5) drug or alcohol use disorder; (6) any overdose of any medication; (7) self mutilation; and (8) any suicidal attempt or gesture. All waivers are read. However, considering a waiver is not the same as granting a waiver. Learn more about joining the U.S. Army.
