Military Occupational Specialty 12B, combat engineer is now open to all female enlisted Soldiers of all components, according to Army Directive 2015-27 at armypubs.army.mil/epubs/pdf/ad2015_27.pdf. The directive applies to all three Army components. This makes available 20,563 additional positions for women and opens the last of the 16 engineer MOSs that were closed to women. Soldiers in MOS 12B are expected to be proficient at a wide variety of tasks, including demolitions, route and mine clearing, constructing fighting positions, erecting fixed and floating bridges and operating heavy equipment.
