The Army's Installation Management Command will realign under Army Materiel Command as one of its major subordinate commands March 1, officials said. IMCOM, which has a workforce of 50,000 and was created in 2002, will realign in order to consolidate base operations and leverage Army expertise in logistics and other specialties. It's one of several ongoing efforts to streamline Army headquarters structure and prioritize resources for readiness and modernization. All IMCOM employees will remain at their current locations, and no positions will be eliminated during the transition. While a later review could recommend that positions be relocated or eliminated, no changes will occur until the person holding the position decides to leave the organization or is properly reassigned.
