U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden, Germany, recently unveiled a new crest design, officials said in a news release. The crest includes the U.S. and German flags and the seals of the cities Mainz and Wiesbaden. It features the Wheel of Mainz, which was used as the coat of arms for the Archbishop of Mainz and the Electorate of Mainz. The city seals sit on either side of the “Berlin Peace Bridge,” intended to evoke the bridge on the Berlin Airlift weather vane memorial near Newman Village on Clay Kaserne. The seal is completed with 84 stars representing the 14 Germans, 39 Brits and 31 Americans who died during the Berlin Airlift in 1948 and 1949. A slogan on the bottom of the crest reads, “Our Home in Germany.” Read more at Army.mil.
