The Air Force has recognized a senior noncommissioned officer as the top boom operator in the service. Senior Master Sgt. Albert Evans of the 349th Air Refueling Squadron at McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas, was named Outstanding Air Refueling Section Award winner for 2018, according to a recent service news release. It’s the first time the 349th ARS has won the award. During the award period, the squadron offloaded 2.9 million pounds of fuel and helped enable 2,200 combat missions across the Middle East and Afghanistan, officials said. The squadron was recognized despite flying the KC-135 Stratotanker, which has only six pallet positions for cargo, compared to the KC-10 Extender, which has 36 positions. Read more at AF.mil.
