Airman Fixes Midair Refueling Problem

An airman who developed a way to improve midair aircraft refueling has received a service award for innovative thinking. Sgt. Jeremie Anderson, a 9th Special Operations Squadron MC-130J Commando II instructor loadmaster, developed an all-in-one device that would shine different colored lights, sending signals to user aircraft on when to go, stop and wait. Currently, loadmasters flash light through colored lenses, which can become faded and difficult to see. Anderson developed a prototype of his device, and months later learned his commander wanted to submit the project to the Cannon Air Force Base Spark Cell challenge. The project won, and Anderson is now working on test models in hope that the device will be used in flight. Read more at AF.mil.
