Thousands of active-duty members have found support through the Air Force Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), which allows Airmen to proceed to assignment locations where suitable medical, educational and other resources are available to treat family members with special needs. An Exceptional Family Member is a family member enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System who has a diagnosed condition that requires ongoing specialized medical or educational services.
