TOPS Knives now has a folding version of its popular bushcraft fixed blade -- the Fieldcraft Folder.
This beefy folding knife features a 4.38-inch blade fashioned from 1095 carbon steel. The Fieldcraft Folder measures 5.5 inches closed and sports a canvas micarta handle.
TOPS officials displayed the new knife at SHOT Show 2018 in January.
The original Fieldcraft fixed blade knife has been a best-selling knife for TOPS since it was released, TOPS officials maintain, describing its ergonomics and modified Scandi grind.
"The folding version promises to be every bit as popular for the same reasons," according to TOPS officials. "While it's larger than many folders out there right now, it carries well with a reversible tip-up pocket clip. ... It has nearly all of the usefulness of the fixed blade, now in a folding version."
Despite its confidence in the new knife, TOPS makes it clear that the Fieldcraft Folder will not take the abuse of its fixed-blade big brother.
"Note: While the Fieldcraft folder has been tested and abused to ensure a quality product, it is still a folding knife. As such, batoning and many other hard-use techniques that many fixed blades will handle, will not be covered under this knife's warranty."
The new knife comes with a leather belt sheath and now retails for $215, down from its original price of $270. You can add blade serrations for an extra $15.
