LAS VEGAS -- CamelBak Products LLC., unveiled a new pack design at SHOT Show 2015 that places the hydration bladder against the lower back.
The Rubicon is one of two backpacks with a special lumbar pocket that holds a three-liter reservoir.
“This is one of two packs we are launching this year with the lumbar reservoir,” Amanda Rodriguez, assistant product manager for CamelBak’s Government, Military and Industrial products, said at SHOT Show.
CamelBak engineers have used the lumbar-reservoir design on some of its recreation-style packs, she said. “This is where your body is meant to carry all the weight,” Rodriguez said.
The Rubicon holds 2,868 cubic inches of gear and is made of 500 denier Cordura. It has an internal frame and two large compartments with clamshell openings.
The Rubicon has quad zippers on the two main compartments for easy access to gear and MOLLE webbing on the inside of the pack for mounting extra pouches. There are also two, streamlined pockets on each side of the pack for carrying water bottles.
CamelBak also has a smaller version of the new lumbar reservoir pack – the Skirmish. It holds 2,197 cubic inches of gear and has many of the same features as the larger Rubicon.
CamelBak has not set a price yet for these packs, but said they would be available in Coyote and black this spring and in MultiCam this fall.
