Reinventing the E-Tool

PARIS -- It wouldn't be a proper defense show if someone wasn't marketing a new take on the esteemed entrenching tool. Fox Knives out of Italy was showing off its interpretation of the cat-hole digger here at Eurosatory 12.

The Fox Folding Spade has a 420 staineless steel blade and a nylon handle. A series of pressure pins hold the blade at either 90, 135 or 180 degrees in relation to the handle.

The curved, L-shaped handle unlocks by pushing a pin and folds alongside the closed blade. It weighs 43.9 ounces and measures 23.6 inches extended and 10.7 inches closed.

No telling if it holds up any better than the standard U.S. E-tool when chopping down small saplings, but the rest of their knives look pretty robust. Might we worth a KitUp field test sometime.

The spade comes with a coyote tan Codura sheath that's equipped with MOLLE attachments. Kinda pricey though -- $95.
