Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Duolingo, Inc. seeks multiple Senior Software Engineers, Backend (Seattle, WA) to contribute to developing seamless infrastructure by providing early feedback to developers through comprehensive testing. Write reliable CI/CD to build and release updates. Enhance visibility on release quality throughout the rollout process to ensure high standards. Generate metrics and AI synthesized insights around bugs and user sentiment. Build APIs that power our products and give our learners a best-in-class experience. Collaborate on various software projects with product design and backend aspects. Develop, release, and maintain backend services and/or infrastructure. Provide technical direction and architecture guidance for junior engineers across the company. Telecommuting permitted consistent with company policy.

Job Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related field and 3 years of experience in a software engineering or related position. Must have 3 years of experience with: Building high-traffic APIs using public cloud providers; Contributing to both frontend and backend software development; Multithreaded programming techniques; and Writing unit tests and testable code. Must have knowledge or coursework in: Algorithms; Data structures; Engineering design; and Programming languages such as Python or Java.
