One Marine was injured Thursday night after a firearm was discharged in the barracks at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
A member of 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, discharged the weapon that led to the injuries, said 1st Lt. Dan Linfante, a spokesman for 2nd Marine Division.
"We can confirm that one Marine sustained injuries, was transported to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, and was placed in stable condition," he said. "According to medical authorities, the Marine's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening."

It was not immediately clear whether the Marine who fired the weapon was the same person who was injured. The Marine Corps referred questions to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Officials with NCIS did not immediately respond to questions about the incident.
An investigation by NCIS is underway to determine what led to the discharge, Linfante said.
"Should the investigation reveal misconduct, we will hold those responsible fully accountable, as such conduct would be inconsistent with the high ideals of the 2nd Marine Division and the broader Marine Corps," he said.
Task & Purpose first reported the incident. No additional information about the ranks of the personnel involved or the type of firearm used was provided.
In 2019, Marine Cpl. Spencer Daily accidentally shot and killed his roommate, Cpl. Tyler Wallingford, at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, while drunk. Daily was sentenced to more than five years in the brig after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter, willful discharge of a firearm, and violating a military order, The Island Packet reported.
