A search-and-rescue mission is underway in the Arabian Sea after a man-overboard incident was reported Wednesday aboard the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln.
Four ships are looking for a U.S. sailor who has been listed as "Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown," officials with U.S. Fifth Fleet said in a statement Thursday. The Lincoln, guided-missile cruiser Leyte Gulf, Spanish frigate Méndez Núñez and Pakistan navy ship Aslat are involved in the search.
U.S. Navy officials are withholding the sailor's name in accordance with service policy.
The Nimitz-class carrier has been in the region for more than a month after being ordered to deploy to the Middle East over threats from Iran. Three destroyers -- the Bainbridge, Mason and Nitze -- were also sent to the region, along with the cruiser Leyte Gulf.
