MORON, Spain -- Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus made a brief stop in Moron, Spain, Nov. 14, to meet with Marines assigned to the Special Purpose - Marine Air-Ground Task Force (SP-MAGTF) Crisis Response unit.
During his short time in Moron, Mabus ate breakfast with Marines prior to touring the SP-MAGTF facilities.
He was also shown the equipment used by the SP-MAGTF's air and ground combat elements.
"One of the most enjoyable jobs I have as Secretary of the Navy is being able to spend time with the outstanding Sailors and Marines of the Navy and Marine Corps team," said Mabus. "Every day, men and women like those I met here in Spain are deployed around the world, providing a constant presence, supporting our national interests. It is a privilege to be able to meet with them and personally thank them for all they do for our military and our nation."
The SP-MAGTF Crisis Response unit is temporarily postured in Southwest Europe. It is able to respond across a full range of military operations to protect U.S. and partner-nation security interests in the region. They plan to conduct further bilateral training with regional militaries to strengthen partnerships throughout the U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command area of responsibility.
Mabus' stop in Moron comes at the beginning of a multi-nation visit to the U.S. European, Africa and Central Command areas of responsibility focused on reinforcing existing partnerships and visiting Sailors and Marines providing forward presence.
