The monthly payment rates for the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve change each October, based on government calculations of higher education costs. Beneficiaries receive different amounts depending on what their "training time" is.
For those taking undergraduate classes, their training time is determined as follows:
- 0-2 hours: 1/4 time
- 3-5 hours: less than 1/2 time
- 6-8 hours: 1/2 time
- 9-11 hours: 3/4 time
- 12 hours and above: full-time
For graduate training, the VA will pay your benefits based on what the school reports your training time to be. So, if you are taking three graduate hours and the school tells the VA that you are considered a full-time student, the VA will pay you the full-time rate.
The monthly rates in the following tables are effective Oct. 1, 2024, through Sept. 30, 2025.
Training Time | Monthly rate |
---|---|
Full time | $481.00 |
3/4 time | $360.00 |
